BILL · 2011–12 SESSION · LATEST VERSION E2SSB 6284
SB 6284: Civil traffic infractions
Reforming Washington's approach to certain nonsafety civil traffic infractions by authorizing a civil collection process for unpaid traffic fines and removing the requirement for law enforcement intervention for the failure to appear and pay a traffic ticket.
Summary
Limits the requirement that the Department of Licensing (DOL) suspend a person's driving privilege for failure to respond to a notice of traffic infraction, failure to appear at a requested hearing, violation of a written promise to appear in court, or failure to comply with the terms of an infraction to traffic infractions for a "moving violation." Requires the DOL, in consultation with the Administrative Office of the Courts, to adopt and maintain a rule defining the term "moving violation."
