Terms of use
Last updated October 11, 2026
These terms apply to your use of WA People (the "site"). By using the site, you agree to them. If you don't agree, please don't use the site.
1. What WA People is
WA People is an independent, nonpartisan, informational website about Washington State legislation, legislators, votes, and related court decisions. It is not an official government website and isn't affiliated with or endorsed by the Washington State Legislature, the Washington courts, or any government agency or political party. Please read our disclaimer.
2. Using the site
You're welcome to use WA People for personal, educational, research, civic, and journalistic purposes, free of charge. The underlying government records are public. If you reuse information from this site, please check it against the official source and credit the original sources.
3. Acceptable use
When using the site, you agree not to:
- try to gain unauthorized access to the site, its servers, or its database, or probe, scan, or test its security without permission (to report a problem, see security);
- disrupt or overload the site, for example with denial-of-service attacks or heavy automated requests. Reasonable automated access is fine if it respects robots.txt and stays gentle (no more than about one request per second);
- use the contact form to send spam, harassment, threats, malware, or unlawful content;
- present WA People, or information from it, as an official government source;
- use the site in any way that breaks the law or violates the rights of others.
We may block access by anyone who violates these terms or puts the site or its users at risk.
4. Information and sources
The site compiles public records from the Washington State Legislature, the Washington courts, the Washington State Office of Financial Management, and CourtListener (Free Law Project). Map imagery comes from OpenFreeMap and OpenStreetMap contributors, credited on the map. These sources may have their own terms. Bill summaries are written by the Legislature's nonpartisan staff. WA People doesn't write or edit them.
5. No warranty
The site and everything on it are provided "as is" and "as available," without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including any warranty of accuracy, completeness, timeliness, fitness for a particular purpose, or non-infringement. Information may be incomplete, out of date, or wrong. Always confirm anything important with the official source.
6. Limitation of liability
To the fullest extent the law allows, WA People and the people who run it are not liable for any loss or damage of any kind arising from your use of the site, from reliance on any information on it, or from the site being unavailable. Your sole remedy if you're dissatisfied with the site is to stop using it.
7. Links to other websites
The site links to official and third-party websites for your convenience. We don't control those sites and aren't responsible for their content, availability, or privacy practices.
8. Privacy
Our privacy policy explains what little information we collect and how we protect it.
9. Changes
We may update these terms from time to time. When we do, we'll change the date at the top of this page. Continuing to use the site after a change means you accept the updated terms.
