HB 1710: Voting rights act compliance
Concerning compliance with the Washington voting rights act of 2018.
Summary
Requires certain political subdivisions proposing to make specified changes to their election system or policies, plan of government, or jurisdictional boundaries to first obtain preapproval from the Attorney General certifying that the proposed changes will not diminish the ability of a protected class to participate in the political process or elect their preferred candidates to office, and will not violate the Washington Voting Rights Act, federal Voting Rights Act, or other state or federal law.
