BILL · 2025–26 SESSION · LATEST VERSION SHB 2224
HB 2224: Fire protection districts
Concerning fire protection districts.
Summary
- Requires that a city or town with a population of 500,000 or less must reduce its general levy rate by the levy rate of a fire protection district that was formed based initially on a resolution of the city legislative authority, rather than requiring that the city or town reduce its levy by the amount levied by such a fire protection district.
- Exempts 25 cents of a levy available to such fire protection districts from the aggregate $5.90 taxing rate limit application to cities, towns, fire protection districts, and other local districts.
- Allows such a fire protection district to contract with the city or town for services.
