Authorizing county auditors to create a voluntary property title protection program to prevent land record fraud.

Summary

  • Authorizes county auditors to develop voluntary property title protection programs that can delay the recording of a document that attempts to transfer ownership of real property for which a fraud protection instrument has been recorded, and allows county treasurers to delay the processing of a real estate excise tax refund application submitted for such a property.
  • Exempts the recording of fraud protection instruments, and of documents releasing such instruments, from certain recording fees.
