HB 2585: State false claims act
Establishing a state false claims act.
Summary
- Establishes a state False Claims Act (Act) that creates civil liability for false or fraudulent claims for money or property presented to the state, and provides that the Attorney General is responsible for investigating violations of the Act.
- Authorizes private parties to bring actions on behalf of the state for violations of the Act and to share in the proceeds of any settlement or judgment, and establishes procedures for Attorney General intervention in the action.
- Establishes whistleblower protections for employees, contractors, or agents who report fraudulent practices by their employers.
- Requires the Attorney General to issue an annual report on the outcomes of implementing the Act.
