SB 6222: Students/surplus technology

Supporting public school students by improving their access to surplus technology hardware.

Summary

  • Exempts school districts and educational service districts (ESDs) from public notice requirements that generally apply for surplus property if selling or granting surplus technology hardware to public school students.
  • Provides that school districts and ESDs that sell or grant the surplus technology hardware to students should prioritize the receipt of items to students with the greatest need.
  • Requires school districts and ESDs, before selling or granting surplus technology hardware to a student under the age of 18, to notify the parent or guardian of the proposed sale or grant.
