HB 1750: Voting rights act claims

Creating guidelines for voter suppression and vote dilution claims under the Washington voting rights act.

Summary

  • Establishes separate standards for when a political subdivision's implementation or enforcement of an election policy or practice would violate the Washington Voting Rights Act's prohibition on the abridgment of voting rights to state that, unless certain criteria are met, a violation occurs when certain political subdivisions implement or enforce any election policy or practice that result in a material disparate burden on the ability or opportunity of members of a protected class to vote or participate in any stage of the political process.
