SB 6206: First responders/child care

Establishing a pilot program that incentivizes child care providers to care for children of first responders.

Summary

  • Directs the Department of Commerce (Commerce) to establish a pilot program to incentivize and make child care more accessible to first responders, subject to appropriations.
  • Specifies that Commerce must select at least four local jurisdictions in different parts of the state to provide incentive payments to licensed or certified child care providers who care for children of first responders and to prioritize providers that provide care during nonstandard work hours, on short notice, and when a child has an illness.
  • Requires selected local jurisdictions to provide a plan of how they can equally match state grants for incentive payments with nonstate resources.
